Finally back in Cali
Well it's been an 8-9 month project, but it's finally almost completed. At least the hardest parts are over and that's selling the Connecticut house for a good price (check), smooth job transition (check), hoping for no issues in the packers moving our stuff (check) and having Jeremy fall asleep during both segments of our trip (check and double check). This is my 3rd cross country move in the span of about 6 years (Detroit to San Jose, San Jose to Hartford, Hartford to San Francisco) and this was by far the smoothest. Amazing thing about that is (and Pam is in the same situation), with each move we both accumulated more and had more stuff to worry about. I moved from Detroit wifeless, catless, PoPo-less and sonless. Moved to Hartford with a wife and an adopted cat and back with a son and mom-in-law and yet this still was the easiest. Either that or I'm just better at going with the flow and knowing what to expect each step of the way. Anyway, important thing is that JC FELL ASLEEP!! Landed at 12:40AM Pacific, had to retrieve luggage, clear up a reservation screw up at Avis, install the car seat, and fumble my way around the corporate apartment complex in the dark before we were able to settle in to the new place. We stepped foot into the apartment at about 1:45AM. Since I had to work today and Pam is on an interview with NetApp, PoPo and JC would be alone the next day. So, Pam and I took a pretty significant grocery shopping trip (not one of these late night runs to 7-11 to pick up a toothbrush) but a 2:15-3:00AM trip for fruits and veggies, breakfast and lunch foods for popo and JC, water, my coffee, milk, etc, etc. A $120 shopping trip at 3AM. Both up at 7 to start our California lives. To think that no less than 48 hours earlier we were living in our house in Connecticut without a single thing packed says a lot about how hectic our past few days have been. And it don't end there - up tomorrow to meet with the real estate agent to find a new home (for me the fun part). One thing I do have to say, however, like I did when I first got here almost exactly 5 years ago, the 10 day forecast calls for not a single cloud in the sky and average temps in the mid-70's. Fine with me. Not going to bother posting the new address here since we don't plan on staying there very long. Cell phones remain the same. Ditto for e-mails. No pictures with this post (and probably for a while) since our home computer is in storage. Hopefully that will be delivered next week along with our cars. OK - duty calls and my manager is calling me in. More to come as we begin our new lives here....
