Having a child is definitely a life changing event, little JC has given us so much more appreciation of what our parents have done for us. He also changed us from DINK(Double Income No Kids) to DIWK or almost SIWK, from very active outdoors to very busy indoors, from compulsive to well planned, from eating out to creating my own gourmet meals every night. Changing Rick to a domesticated dad and me to a mommy.
Ever since we bought him home, the cat, Screamer, has dropped from the top of the command chain to the bottom, it adapts like we do, and learns to get attention only when the baby goes to bed at night, and not to get on any of the baby stuff.
We've gone into pregnancy all prepared, read all the books, talked to lots of people, attended birthing classes for 12 weeks, but nothing, nothing has prepared us for what real parenthood is like! And what a shock it was for us! In the early days, Rick and I would look at each other, so tired, and asked what we have done and wondered what is the purpose of all these! If not for my loving mom who is always here to lend a loving hand, we would be clueless, frustrated and even more sleep deprived. It has been 6 months now, along the way, we have gone thru jaundice, difficulties in breastfeeding, his first shots, nanny search nightmare, sleepless nights, sleepless nights and sleepless nights. If not for that cute face, big brown eyes and adorable little everything, he would be out on the curb long ago. But we have all survived! Parenthood for us is about survival really! Hopefully, there will be more joy soon!
JC doesn't smile very often, very unlike other kids we saw, we need to work very hard for that little twitch of the lips.....but when he really smiles, it melts our hearts, and all the silly faces and crazy noise we never thought we would make are all worth it. This little guy sure knows how to work these two clowns!
Full time momminess should deserve more credits than most people think, it is the most demanding job I have ever had! Compare to this, my job is a breeze. At least it is not 24 hours long, and really time passes exponentially when you are changing diapers, performing cow duties and trying to entertain a 6 months old with all sorts of tricks!
